The vector graphics is a type of the computer graphics which is based on using primitive geometrical figures such as lines, curves and points to make up various images. In other words, the vector graphics means images made up of vectors. The vector images may vary from simple (for instance, rectangles, triangles, stars and other geometrical shapes) to very complicated. Any picture made up by means of the vector graphics can be used as a background of your PowerPoint presentation.
To be inserted into a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation your Image should be of the Windows Enhanced Metafile format (emf). If your file is of any other format, for example eps, svg, pdf, ai or cdr, you should use a graphics editor in order to convert your image into the emf format. To convert an image into the emf format you can use an EMF converter, for example the Total PDF Converter Program, which is good for converting eps ant other types of files into the emf program. To change the file format, you should open the converting program and drag the chosen file into its interface, and then save the file in the new format.
The emf format is an updated version of the wmf format. Its main advantage is more efficient use of the disk memory. A file saved in the emf format occupies two times less memory than a corresponding wmf file.
Note: Some images may be recognized by the PowerPoint program, but only like bitmapped ones. The so-called "bitmaps", or "rasters", represent a different type of graphics. These files are all composed of dots. Here belong various pictures, photos from your camera, or scanned ones. They also include gif images and animations. The disadvantage of the bitmaps is that when you scale them up, their quality decreases. As for the vector images, no matter how you change their scale, they remain good-looking.
After you’ve got your emf file you need to insert it into PowerPoint.
To insert your graphical object into the PowerPoint worksheet you are to follow these steps:
Then you can drag the needed object into your PowerPoint worksheet with the mouse.
Now you see your image into the PowerPoint worksheet and you need to ungroup it. Otherwise your image stops being an element of vector graphics.
To ungroup the image, select it with the mouse, press the right button and then go to the Group menu and select Ungroup. This will divide the image into a number of components. Thus you become able to change the picture or its parts within the PowerPoint program.
Then you will see the following PowerPoint dialogue box: “Do you want to convert it to a Microsoft Office drawing object?” Press “yes”.
Done! Now you are able to use the vector image in your Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, to choose its color and type of fill, to move or rotate it and to change its size. You can modify the parameters of your vector objects the way you like. It will not make the quality of image worse; vice versa it is the most useful way to work with this type of graphical objects.
